Collections
Taken during the spring of 2023, I documented different collections of people I knew. When it comes to people’s collections you can get a glimpse of them as a person. Their interests, how they take care of them, and how long they’ve been collecting, there is something very sentimental to these collections and the memories they bring to the collector.
Each collection will have the age of the collector when the photos were taken.
All photos taken by Alani Angeles and edited in Adobe Lightroom.
This collection as of now sits in the garage of my parent’s house. My dad collects an array of toys from his childhood with series like Transformers, Robotech, Star Wars, Voltron, mostly things from the 80’s. As of 2024 he is buying Transformers with me and my siblings gifting him a G1 Transformer for Christmas.
While taking photos of my Grandma’s collection, I originally set out to get photos of just the dolls and angels which takes up an entire wall in the living room. It is also missing the middle section of her collection of shot glasses and snow globes.
As I finished up taking photos, she pulled out binders of scrapsbooks featuring other things she collected, the one being featured here are newspaper comics that are about the USPS. See, she worked at the USPS before she retired and I remember as a kid going to USPS to pick her up after her night shifts as she couldn’t drive anymore. The collection ranged from actual ads the USPS had to Peanuts comics where the post office was mentioned offhandedly.
(Age 20)
These collections are from the same household of my childhood friend (the oldest child).
His younger brother’s collection of romance novels was my favorite. The collection is a stack on the floor of his room almost knee high. He apparently got half of them from his old English teacher in freshmen year as she was just going to throw them out. The others were from old libraries getting rid of unwanted books. He has never read any of the books but has told me that his judges based off the cover art.
The Sonny Angels is a collection that the entire family contributes, with the dad and middle sister being the highest contributors. The Sonny Angels were scattered across the house from each the siblings’ rooms, the living rooms, different desks, and next to family photos.
